Precision Reimagined:
The Evolved MouthWatch Plus+ HD Housing Design
Sunrise was initially engaged to redesign the outer plastic housing for MouthWatch Plus+ HD intraoral Camera. The redesign involved transitioning to a new manufacturing process (ultrasonic welding) for cheaper, faster, and stronger bonding. Changes were made to the material of the outer housing for compatibility with the welding process. Poka-yoke principles were applied to prevent assembly errors.
Sharpening the Focus: Optimizing Camera Components for Superior Image Clarity
Sunrise conducted a tolerance analysis and selected an alternate gasket material to ensure consistent button actuation force.
We redesigned the camera lens mount to eliminate manufacturing steps, reduce labor costs, and improve image quality by preventing debris issues.
Working with MouthWatch, Sunrise defined quantifiable metrics for image quality. We then collaborated with the original lighting designer to eliminate light leaks that caused distortions, and performed multiple calibrations to compensate for lens distortion and imaging chip light response variation.
Electrical and Thermal Improvements Deliver Improved Performance
Sunrise conducted temperature measurements on the housing and addressed a hot-spot issue above one of the chips on the printed circuit board, and introduced a 10¢ part to redistribute internal heat flow, lowering peak housing temperature for user comfort.
We reviewed the printed circuit board design to ensure compliance with manufacturing rules, leveraging Sunrise Labs’ knowledge of design, manufacturing process optimization, quality improvements, and compliance with industry standards.
